Japanese Fish Dishes

Fish dishes in Japan, a centuries old tradition.

Fischgerichte

Japan is an island archipelago, that is why fish occupies an important role in the Japanese food culture. This is reinforced by the fact that in the seventh century a ban was issued by the then Emperor which explicitly prohibited the consumption of cattle, horses, dogs, monkeys, and chickens. This ban existed over a thousand years, which meant that hardly any meat was eaten in Japan. More so, the dishes with fish were so refined that they reached true perfection.
